How does Joonya support the planet?

As the nation has burned over the past few months, we have all been a little anxious about the future we are bringing up our children in. Climate change and the environment is THE topic of the moment, and consumers are focusing even more on buying products from companies who do the right thing.

We have focused on sustainability from the very beginning, incorporating as many sustainability features into our products as we can reasonably do. For example, our wipes are 100% biodegradable and compostable, while our nappies have a significant proportion of materials that are sustainable (no disposable nappy is 100% compostable no matter what you read. If you find one you believe to be, please let us know!).

Joonya has not only supported drought-affected rural parents by sending free boxes of wipes and nappies, we have also been supporting forests directly by becoming the only Australian nappy brand who is FSC-certified (Forest Stewardship Council). This global non-profit runs the best of all forestry schemes, and is designed to ensure that any wood products are coming from sustainably managed forests. Its a forest-to-consumer chain of custody system where everyone along the supply chain needs to be certified to ensure the customer is truly getting sustainably harvested wood products. Why does it matter? Well, illegal logging around the world is rampant and destroys entire ecosystems – it  could be the topic of an entire blog article I will write one day soon!

The annual audit alone to be an FSC-certified organization runs into many thousands of dollars but Joonya has invested in this because we believe it is the future of consumer preferences, and is essential for our planet’s survival. You can read more about the FSC on their website here.

We also support forests by donating one tree for every order made on our website, via the Trees for the Future non-profit who you can read about here. https://trees.org/

Thanks again for supporting Joonya and our sustainable products, we wish you luck in dealing with this bushfire crisis in the months (and years) ahead!
